About the Conference
The Scientific Programme of the 2nd IAS Conference on HIV Pathogenesis and Treatment is planned to provide new insights into HIV disease that can lead to new research directions, help speed translational research and move advances into clinical practice.
Particular attention will be paid to ensuring that the proceedings are relevant to the challenges of expanding access to treatment in resource limited settings.
Another important goal is to present the latest HIV science and its practical applications for public and individual health in the context of where the epidemic will be in 2003. As such, the organizers are committed to anchoring the science to the reality of the world experience, using the expanded rollout of HIV care and treatment to new populations in Africa, Asia and Latin America to reinforce the need to be clinically relevant.
The abstract-driven programme will feature a dynamic mix of state-of-the-art basic and clinical science in equal balance. The basic science track will be strengthened with HIV virology, HIV immunology, and AIDS vaccine research. Emerging or underdeveloped areas of research will be featured proactively and prominently throughout the programme. The clinical science track will cover the gamut from treatment in resource-limited settings to state-of-the-art and high technology topics.
The Conference will feature every kind of meeting, from 3,000 person plenary sessions to smaller workshops. A major innovation will be the emphasis on “forums”, large meetings held every day to provide a platform for scientists to ask questions and debate the research and findings, and their implications.
